Writing Project

What do I have to write?

You get a choice:

  • Narrative (Story)
  • Personal Essay
  • Research Paper

How long does it have to be?

Your grade is be based on both length and quality.

First, I will do a word count and divide by 10. (That is, I will move the decimal point one place to the left).

That is your starting grade. Study the following examples:

Word Count Percentage

1000 (or more)

Next, I will adjust your grade up or down based on the overall quality of your work.

Here are the things I'm looking for.

When is it due?

This project is expected to take about 10 weeks. (That's only 100 words per week!)

Final due date: Friday, May 1.

Projects will not be accepted after this date!

Early submissions are welcome!

How much is this project worth?

10% of your grade.

Can I use my extra credit instead of doing a writing project?

Sure. But keep in mind:

  • It is possible to earn about 12 or 13 extra-credit slips per trimester.
  • 10 extra credit slips = 1 writing project.

Therefore, if you use most of your extra-credit slips for your writing project, you will have only two or three left over to make up for a low grade in other categories (Blog, Typing, Quia, Speaking and Listening).

A smarter strategy would be to try to earn at least a C on your writing project, and then you won't have to worry so much about getting a perfect score in everything else.

I don't know what to write about.
