Garden of Hesperides

In Greek mythology, the Garden of the Hesperides belonged to the goddess Hera. In this garden there was a grove of apple trees that bore golden apples. The golden apples were believed to give immortality to anyone who consumed them.

The 12th labor of Hercules was to steal some of the apples for King Eurystheus. Hercules succeeded by tricking Atlas.

Several months later, when Hercules reached home, he gave the apples to King Eurystheus. Eurystheus quickly gave the apples to his wife. His wife returned the apples to Hera with her apologies.
