More Than a Name

All your major characters need at least four things:

  1. Full Name
  2. Charater Trait
  3. Occupation
  4. Goal
Name Character Trait and Occupation Goal

Bernard Stanley,

a shy baker,

wants to ask one of his regular customers out on a date.

Sonja Sims,

an adventurous college student,

wants to explore a mountain cave.

Mario Lynch,

a grumpy detective,

wants to solve a gruesome murder.

Does this seem simple and obvious? It is!

Nonetheless, many students neglect to give their characters more than a name, and the result is that all their characters seem like interchangeable parts.

Instructions for the Quiz

Write five sentences. Each sentence should be a character description. Use the following sentence pattern:

Note the location of the commas!

Sample Answer:

Raul Scott, an arrogant lawyer, wants to sue a young saleswoman.

Wallace Herrera, a boastful teenager, wants to stop an embarrasing rumor.

Candice Nunez, a nervous witch, wants to enchant a handsome farmboy.

Louise James, a quirky travel agent, wants to spend a week in Fiji.

Nathan Walton, a vengeful butler, wants to steal a diamond from his employer.

Your characters don't necessarily need to be characters in the same story. (But they could be, if you want).
