Lesson 25: Write Your Introduction

In this lesson you will learn a "formula" for writing your introduction. Stick to the formula. You will have a chance to get creative later, if you want.

Here is the formula:

Some people think that __________ is not a good place to go on vacation. However, the truth is that __________ is wonderful. _____Reason # 1_____; _____reason # 2_____, and ____reason # 3_______. __________ is a wonderful vacation destination.

Written as a paragraph, it would look like this:

Some people think that France is not a good place to go on vacation. However, the truth is that France is wonderful. The food is delicious; the people are friendly, and there are many terrific museums. France is a wonderful vacation destination.

Of course, if you are writing your second paper—the paper with the opposite thesis—then you're going to have to turn it around. That is, start by admitting that some people like your country, but then promise to tell the reader the truth: Your country is actually a horrible place to go. Here is an example:

Some people think that France is a great place to go on vacation. However, the truth is that France is overrated. The people are stinky; the food is expensive, and the subways are overcrowded. France is a horrible vacation destination.

Lesson Steps

1.

Write your introduction according to the formula.

For a "pro" paper use this formula:

Some people think that __________ is not a good place to go on vacation. However, the truth is that __________ is wonderful. _____Rreason # 1_____; _____reason # 2_____, and ____reason # 3_______. __________ is a wonderful vacation destination.

For a "con" paper, use this formula:

Some people think that __________ is a great place to go on vacation. However, the truth is that __________ is a terrible country. _____Reason # 1_____; _____reason # 2_____, and ____reason # 3_______. __________ is a horrible vacation destination.

2. Congratulations! You're done with this lesson.
