Gerund Phrases as Objects of Prepositions

You have already learned that the object of a preposition is always a noun (or a noun phrase). Since gerunds are basically nouns (i.e., they are verb-like creatures that behave like nouns), the object of a preposition could be a gerund (or gerund phrase).

Here are some examples of sentences with prepositional phrases. In each sentence, the object of the preposition is a gerund phrase. The gerund phrases have been highlighed; the prepositional phrases have been crossed out.
