Course Description

This course covers a wide range of skills related to the English language. All the Common Core Standards are thoroughly covered. Major units include:

 
  • Reading Literature
  • Reading Non-Fiction
  • Literary Analysis
  • Vocabulary Development
  • Grammar
  • Narrative Writing
  • Essay Writing
  • Writing Strategies
  • Writing Conventions
  • MLA Format
 

In addition, students will:

 
  • Write research papers documented in MLA style. (MLA is a standard format for college research papers).
  • Work collaboratively in groups.
  • Make presentations to the class.
  • Create blogs.

Citizenship

Students who repeatedly break the rules will be given an infraction. Infractions affect your citizenship grade. A "U" for citizenship may affect your ability to participate in certain school activities (dances, sports, field trips, etc.)
